Lash Lift vs Lash Extensions: An Honest Comparison
I offer both lash lifts and lash extensions at my Toronto studio, and one of the most common questions I get is: "Which one should I get?" The answer depends entirely on your lifestyle, budget, and the look you're going for.
What Is a Lash Lift?
A lash lift is a chemical treatment that curls your natural lashes from the root, making them appear longer and more visible. Often paired with a tint for added definition. Think of it as a perm for your lashes.
Duration: 45-60 minutes
Results last: 6-8 weeks
Cost: $80-$140
What Are Lash Extensions?
Lash extensions are individual synthetic fibers bonded to your natural lashes using medical-grade adhesive. They add length, volume, and curl that your natural lashes may not have.
Duration: 1.5-2.5 hours (full set)
Results last: 2-3 weeks before refill needed
Cost: $150-$400 (full set) + refills every 2-3 weeks
Choose a Lash Lift If...
- You have naturally long lashes that just need a curl
- You prefer a low-maintenance beauty routine
- You're on a tighter budget
- You swim, work out, or sweat frequently
- You want a natural "no makeup" look
- You don't want the commitment of refill appointments
Choose Lash Extensions If...
- You want dramatic length and volume
- Your natural lashes are short or sparse
- You want to wake up looking polished every day
- You're willing to invest in regular refills
- You have a special event coming up
- You want a customized look (cat eye, doll eye, wispy, etc.)
Can You Get Both?
Not at the same time — but you can alternate. Some clients get lash extensions for special seasons and switch to lash lifts for lower-maintenance periods.
My Professional Opinion
If you've never had either treatment, I often recommend starting with a lash lift. It's a lower commitment, costs less, and lets you see how you feel about enhanced lashes. If you love the lifted look but want more drama, extensions are your next step.
