Can You Get a Facial With Lash Extensions? How to Protect Your Set

"Will a facial ruin my lashes?" is one of the questions I hear most from clients who wear extensions. The short answer: no — a facial and lash extensions get along fine, as long as you know what weakens the bond and plan around it. Here is what actually matters.

What a facial can do to lash extensions

Lash adhesive bonds best to clean, dry, oil-free lashes, and three things common in facials work against it:

    • Oil. Cleansing oils, oily serums and rich creams around the eyes slowly break down the bond. This is the biggest cause of early shedding after a facial.
    • Steam and heat. Steam softens fresh adhesive and can loosen the curl of the extensions. Most facials include steam at some stage.
    • Friction. Massage, cotton pads and towels wiped across the eye area tug at the extensions.

How to have a facial without losing lashes

    1. Tell the specialist you wear extensions. They can keep steam away from the eyes, skip oil around the lash line and work around the eye area instead of across it.
    2. Ask for eye pads. They protect the lashes from serums, masks and the treatment head.
    3. Get the order right. If you are doing both in one week, the facial goes first. If your set is brand new, wait at least 48 hours before a facial so the adhesive has fully cured.
    4. Cleanse the lashes afterwards. If any product got on them, wash them gently with a lash cleanser and brush them through once dry.

Is OxyGeneo safe with lash extensions?

An OxyGeneo facial is one of the easier ones to combine with lashes: there is no extraction marathon and no downtime. It does use a treatment head on the skin and infuses serums, so the same rules apply — the specialist works around the eye area, and if you want lashes the same day, the facial comes first.

Because the clinic that performs OxyGeneo, Crystal Cosmetic Clinic, shares our address, we often line the two up: facial first, then lashes in the same trip, with the lash line cleansed before I start.

    What about microneedling?

Microneedling is different: the skin is red and sensitive for a few days afterwards, and you will be using gentle, often rich aftercare products. Do not book a lash fill or a new set in those days. Plan microneedling right after a lash appointment, or wait until the redness has settled before coming back for lashes.

    Frequently asked questions

How long after a lash appointment can I get a facial?

At least 48 hours, so the adhesive is fully cured. Longer is better if the facial includes a lot of steam.

Can I use my usual serums with extensions?

On the face, yes. Keep oil-based products away from the lash line — use them below the eye area and avoid rubbing them in towards the lashes.

Will a facial make my extensions fall out?

Not if the eye area is protected. Extensions shed with the natural lash cycle anyway; a facial only speeds that up when oil or steam reaches the bond.
